Welcome to the 2009 winter edition of Voicemail!
Sydney Philharmonia has had a very busy season so far - performances with Maestro Ashkenazy, Brett Weymark conducting 350 singers in two amazing concerts of Mozart’s music (Amadeus) and working with nearly 1,000 choristers in ChorusOz.
Registrations for this year’s Messiah Choir will shortly open and we are busily finalising the 2010 season, look closely at your email early September! On July 24 & 26 we give you the opportunity to hear Jephtha, one of Handel’s last masterpieces, featuring some of Australia's best known baroque singers. And in August join us on a pilgrimage to Renaissance music.

Jane Sheldon & Jephtha

On July 24 & 26 Sydney Philharmonia will mark the 250th anniversary of George Fredric Handel’s death with a performance of his final oratorio - Jephtha .
Soprano in the Spotlight – 5 minutes with Jane Sheldon The young soprano, Jane Sheldon, will join us to play the part of the Angel coming to save Jephtha’s daughter, who is condemned to death.

ChorusOz behind the scenes

ChorusOz 2009 took place on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June at the Opera House and welcomed nearly 1,000 singers!
The success of this annual event lies in the passion of our Artistic & Musical Director Brett Weymark to make this a fun and exciting few days, the talent of all the singers and musicians and also to Sydney Philharmonia team who spend months in preparation to ensure its smooth running.

A Choral Pilgrimage in August
|
|
Celebrating the famous pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, our Chamber Singers will perform acapella music at six iconic churches across Sydney, travelling from Newtown to Windsor to Darling Point to Manly and Parramatta.

Handel’s Messiah is always a highlight of the concert calendar for Sydney Philharmonia Choirs.
Last year a record number of choristers registered to be part of the 440 voice Messiah Choir – with waiting lists for every part from soprano to bass.

Join our Sound Developments Course

On Saturday July 18 and Sunday July 19 join us for a full weekend of workshops to improve your vocal skills and develop your music reading skills, essential to a choral singer.
Breathing, posture, range, sight-reading and interpreting the conductor’s gestures are just a few of the areas our experiences team will focus on.
